Jason Martinez
Jason Martinez joined the FOX 29 News team in June 2019 as co-anchor of the evening newscasts weeknights at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. He’s also the host of the nightly fan-favorite Phantastic Sports Show, which airs weeknights at 11:30 p.m. Known for his heart, humor, and genuine connection with viewers, Jason has become a trusted face in homes across the Philadelphia region.
While he’s passionate about journalism and storytelling, being "Daddy" is Jason’s greatest role. He’s the proud father of five—Jagger, Carson, Angelina, John-Michael, and Jason—and shares a strong faith and community connection with his wife, Lissette, as active members of Annunciation BVM Church in Havertown.
A well-known figure in Philadelphia’s sports scene, Jason covers the Eagles and Phillies with insight, energy, and a fan’s enthusiasm. He followed the Eagles’ thrilling 2024–25 Super Bowl run all the way to New Orleans, capturing the spirit of the season from the heart of the action.
Jason’s civic engagement runs deep. In 2023, he moderated Philadelphia’s Democratic primary mayoral debate, a pivotal moment that contributed to the historic election of Cherelle Parker as the city’s first female mayor.
A frequent contributor to Good Day Philadelphia, Jason also created the "You’re Awesome Award," a segment that honors everyday individuals performing selfless acts. Designed to bring brightness to newscasts, the award reflects his deep belief in the power of Philadelphia’s Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection.
Jason is a six-time Emmy Award-winning journalist whose career has taken him across the country—from wild Florida headlines to wildfire coverage in San Diego, California.
Before San Diego, Jason spent five years as morning news anchor at WPLG in Miami, where he reported some of the most bizarre and intense stories of his career—from fake plastic surgeons to a violent face-eating incident, along with coverage of U.S.-Cuba relations, two Miami Heat NBA championships, and several presidential elections.
Jason’s field reporting experience spans natural disasters, crime scenes, major elections, plane crashes, tornadoes, and hurricanes. In Fresno, California, he earned an Emmy for his coverage of a devastating freeze that wiped out Central California's citrus crops. While working in Los Angeles, he earned another Emmy for team coverage of Michael Jackson’s sudden death.
After graduating from Chapman University in Orange, California, Jason began his career in Toledo, Ohio, at WTVG. There, he covered the November 2002 tornado outbreak, "The Big Blackout," and interviewed a promising young high school athlete named LeBron James.
Jason’s personal journey fuels his compassion. His son Carson nearly died as a newborn due to a blood infection—a harrowing experience that inspired Jason’s long-standing support for Children’s Hospitals across the country. He also lost his grandfather to Alzheimer’s disease and has been a passionate advocate for the Alzheimer’s Association for many years.
Beyond journalism, Jason’s love for music runs deep. A drummer since the age of four, he has performed with musicians across a range of styles including funk, jazz, Latin, rock, soul, and country. A former college baseball player who once played alongside future Phillies great Chase Utley, Jason is a true sports fanatic—and a golfer still trying to find the fairway.
